Just one year following the end of the Second World War II in 1946, Emil Süssmeir founded his greeting card company in Friedberg, Bavaria. Because of a shortage of materials, envelopes first had to be made out of old newspapers in a nearby prison; cards had to be printed on roller-presses and later hand-colored with watercolors.
Within a short period though, a postcard collection with very high quality standards, for those days, was developed and introduced to the wholesalers. This success inspired Emil Süssmeir to expand his collection by producing greeting cards for all occasions. As a result, the Sü-Publishing Company has been able to develop over the years into a reputable printing house for greeting cards and cards expressing sympathy.
The predominant clientele includes the wholesale business. Shortly after its 50th anniversary in 1996 and at its peak, the company had to go into liquidation because of the difficulties associated with finding a new successor. In time, the owner of a young enterprise from Munich secured for himself the successful know-how of the Sü-Publishing House and carried on as the Sü-Verlag Leonas GmbH.
Motivated and qualified employees moved their workplace from Friedberg to Munich and developed - using new ideas and technological innovations - a timely and sophisticated collection. New products, such as gift-books of various kinds, maxi-cards, humorous cards, bookmarks, letter paper and a new line of laser-printed cards, secured the Sü-Verlag Leonas GmbH recognition and customer satisfaction.
